Sonata for a good man

Wednesday, 9 September 2009

I watched ''The Lives of Others'' last night. I'm mentioning it because is the reason im not gonna write to my blog for a while!

On a certain day in the blue-moon month of September
Beneath a young plum tree, quietly I held her there,
my quiet, pale beloved In my arms just like a graceful dream.
And over us in the beautiful summer sky
There was a cloud on which my gaze rested
It was very white and so immensely high
And when I looked up, it had disappeared.

Where the Great Things Are

Thursday, 26 March 2009

Goodness me, 2009 is shaping up to be an exciting year for cinema! A month ago My friend Jud pointed me in the direction of the brand new poster for the Where The Wild Things Are movie. The only thing i could say was OMG WTF FTW YES!! As i never read the book, I was totally excited for this movie, and this poster was just the first reason.

You might probably know that Spike Jonze has dropped the official movie trailer just yesterday. Fisrt was the poster and now an amazing outstanding movie trailer. One of the most exciting things about this trailer is the fact that Arcade Fire has lent one my favorite tune ''Wake up'', to make the trailer. Few months ago Neon Bible track 'My Body Is A Cage' was heard on the trailer for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button!

The trailer + Arcade Fire + Magic + Nostalgia makes me miss my adorable nieces and my boyfriend even more! Here is the second part of the video i promised to post long time ago! My nieces rock!

a race my case!! ^_^

Diarios de Lucio (photo by me)

Diarios de Motocicleta ( Gael Garcias Bernal as joung Ernesto Guevara)

Things are likely to be quite busy this week, but be excited! Monday for me it's a good day though, because i have a day off! I slept for 13 hours straight last night. I couldn't believe how tired i was.

Monday is a good day to remember good movies and good movie soundtrack. For example today i was listening to the soundtrack of the Impeccable film of Walter Salles ''Motorcycle Diaries''. This soundtrack was on our stereo when we were crossing the jungles with Fran in Venezuela. Is the exact kind of music which is amazing to hear when you are traveling, and when you want to relax and not let the outside world bother you (especially when you are in traffic)! Gustavo Santaolalla who's responsible for more movie soundtrack masterpieces like ''21 Grams'', ''amores perros'' ''Brokeback Mountain'',etc, scored in this film as well. The album won the BAFTA award for Best Film Music, and the last track of the album ''Al Otro lado del Rio'' won the Oscar for Best Original Song. (even though it's not my favorite)

here are my two instant classic favorites:

You can listen samples of the rest of the album tracks here.

The opposite of work is of course play, and it's not bad at all to play even if you are 23, 32, or 320. This Monday deserves a playful mood. So i called my friend Lucio -who happens to look alike to Gael Garcia Bernal-to go for a walk. Me and Savvas for a walk means only two things: Fun and Joy.

Day's Highlights:

1)Me: Had blackcurrant muffin with white chocolate
Lucio: Chocolate muffin

2)The beautiful blond girl, with the beautiful slim legs, with the beautiful blue electric jacket who was waiting someone for ages and he/she has never shown up! (poor thing).

3)Lucio's socks

4)These funny reflections in Lucio's ace sunglasses

5) Lucio has i-phone, which means that we had internet access, which means that i could listen to my new obsession 1901 from the upcoming album of The Phoenix! The song it's so catchy that can easily drive you crazy. J'aime cette chanson beaucoup! J' adore Phoenix!! (duh, for me trying to speak french). I suck, i know! :)

6) When we were called artists by a passing man, the moment i stepped on Lucio!

It's really hard to say something bad about Disney-Pixar. They always seem to come up with pretty original ideas: Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, WALL-E were heartfelt. Yesterday, just a while before i sleep, i stumbled upon the trailer of Pixar's new movie, ''Up''. Oh my god, it is magic. A fantastic trailer and what a great story. I really feel like this movie is not going to let us down! It is this kind of trailers that guarantees an amazing movie. I can safely presume that Pixar has done it again. I love the fantastical imagery and bright colors. The character of the grumpy old Carl Fredricksen has been growing on me more and more, after watching the trailer about 20 times by now. The movie is scheduled for release on May 29, 2009!

The way Carl Fredricksen delivers ''no'' in that scene it's priceless

Up's trailer reminds me a video i found about 3 months: Tiji The Balloon.A Beautiful and simple storytelling, perfectry animated and timed, which anwers my eternal long lost question of what happens to floating unobserved balloons. Lets just ignore those laws of physics. (hehe)

Watching ''Tiji The Balloon'', i remembered the Lamarisse's masterpiece ''Le ballon Rouge'', a rare gem of French cinema. A thirty minute film, with minimal dialogs, about the power of love and friendship. The balloon regenerate itself in an endless flow of passion. The most enchanting and moving short produced film in history. You can watch it here in a very bed quality though.

And talking about passion, here are some balloon photos of my passionate photographer (i <3 onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgB0uJa2c0g6yzfwZYvYgC6VkU69s8nMHmF1W-1om2NlzDQxFoxX2LoonGlhKNPNr_7JVqU8yZFl8xtZvhvOdmj4L6BwP6tIIGsVw8dz5FGYmbpPBTNva6kwFrhu_ckO3QqBGXz8AQpAwU/s1600-h/ballons+5.jpg">Photo By Francisco Blanco

In the film 'The Wackness, Ben Kingsley as a psychologist Dr. Jeffrey Squires gives some advice to young Luke . He says: "Never trust anyone who doesn't like the beach. Never ever ever trust anyone who says they don't like dogs." I think he's got a point, but i would also like to add, never trust anyone who doesn't enjoy MUSIC.

Today i have been listening to Workout Holiday by White Denim. I was in mood for it! Sadly i haven't seen the album in any of the lists with the best albums of 2008. At least was included in mine!! I can decribe the album with three words: "magnificent" and "instant classic".

I went to see them live. I arrived a bit earlier to buy a band t-shirt, but i was told that they weren't accepting credit cards, so i went out to get some cash from an ATM. Outside there was a group of young guys and one of them had asked me, if i was leaving. Because i went all alone, to the gig, i avoided to reply (my mum once told me not to talk to strangers)! When i came back i realised that the guy who made the question was James Petralli (the band's frontman). I felt well embarrased, but didn't lose the chance to get my album (that i bought the day before) signed, by all the band's members and aside them for a brief chat.

They couldn't believe that they have a fan from Cyprus. When i asked them to sign the album they told me: ''Are you Joking us''?? ''No, I don't''. He went on to mention that thiat was their first major tour and though they were playing to bigger crowds opening for Tapes n' Tapes than they would on their own and that crowds ,had been receptive so far, but they didn't come acrossed in a case like mine, asking them to sign their debut album. I felt a bit proud (hahah). The guys were fun, they mentioned that Joshua Block – the drummer- had his birthday, so you sang him happy birthday. Joshua considered the two birthday kisses i gave him as a birthday gift!! hehehe! It was time for the band to get ready, and for me to buy my t-shirt, so we went all upstairs!

I left with that satisfied feeling of seeing a great band live, a band which combine the gooddies of Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth and The Strokes.

Slums on the Rock!

Sunday, 8 February 2009

Is everyone ready for their Oscar party? I am really worried this year because i want Academy to do the right thing this year and give the Oscar for Best Picture to ''Slum Dog Millionaire''. I heard there is a conspirancy raging against SDM, but what the hell, I hope that it whips every other film at the cart's tail. It's really bad when there are so many people that envy you out there!

''Milk'' is the other movie worthy to win! I've seen it online though and in a quite shit quality, but i really got good vibrations! BUTTTT in case that ''The Reader'' wins then I will have lost ALL my faith to the Oscars, (i mean the few have left)!

I am really excited because i found a way to share the five star soundtrack of the movie. I was never a Bollywood music fan, well actually it's somehow a lie because when i was about 10 i watched a cult classic Indian film with my best friend Ersi and there was a song in that movie, saying something ''jimmy, jimmy, acha, acha''. We were big fans me and my friend, we even made our choreography for the song . Big hit! The funniest thing ever though, is that today while i was shopping funny stuff from Urban Outfitters i heard a remix of ''Jimmy, Jimmy, acha, acha'' (i don't now what the real song title is) and i said WHAT THE HELL! One of the reasons i love Urban Outfitters is the fucking amazing music they play, Music you cannnot find easily in any other shop or indie club-pup-whatever, but listened to that song was too much! I went immediately at the cashier and asked him who is singing that song, and he replied:''Oh, i love that song, it's an old one but M.I.A sings the new version'' . I was shocked, you might don't believe me but i bought the double album -which is amazing -and here is the proof about the jimmy song:

(lol)

That was my sweet surprised this Sunday Afternoon. BACK TO MY SUBJECT NOW, which is the groundbreaking and refreshing soundtrack of Slum Dog Millionaire. I remembered that when i came back from the cinema (almost a month ago), i downloaded immediately the album. I was playing the album non-stop for days, so much that i had to apologize to my flatmate for hearing the same music every day! My favorite song is"O... Saya'' the song that opens the film, but is just a great piece of music to listen to for its own sake. I bought the new NME today and they totally recommend this song. Well i am impressed by this splendid work, you should really buy this masterpiece now or regret it later! It's one in a million!

here is the playlist with all the album songs in demo:

Despair In The Departure Lounge

Ακούγεται υπερβολικό, αλλά πιστέψτε με: this man was definitely heading the damn toilet!

Are simply entertaining. Φτάνοντας μετά από 6 ώρες στο σπίτι, συναισθηματικά καταβεβλημένη, ακούω φανατικά το album των little Joy, περιμένοντας το Next time Around.

… I'll belong to you, it's how it's meant to be
It's how it's always been. Ποσό δραματικά ρομαντική μπορεί να είμαι τελικά; I feel like making a movie, a really crappy one!
